SPINAL MANIPULATION
Spinal manipulation is a precise, hands-on technique used to restore movement to a stiff or restricted joint. A specific joint is gently taken to the end of its available range, and a small, quick movement is applied in a controlled direction. A ‘click’ or ‘pop’ is sometimes heard during manipulation. This sound is caused by a harmless release of gas within the joint and is not an indication of bones moving out of place.
Manipulation can:
- Reduce pain and stiffness
- Improve joint mobility
- Restore normal movement patterns
Many people notice an immediate improvement in movement or discomfort, although results vary depending on the condition being treated.
As with all treatments at Miramar Physiotherapy, spinal manipulation is only used when it is clinically appropriate and is always based on a thorough assessment.
