Cold temperatures, wet weather, changes in air pressure and decreased activity may leave your muscles and joints feeling stiff and achey during the winter months. Here are some tips to try and help you withstand the season!
A lower atmospheric air pressure in winter can cause increased swelling in your joints. Cold weather may impede your peripheral circulation – joints stiffen & muscles become less flexible.
Also as the temperature lowers and the skin gets cold, pain sensors work more. This is why things hurt, or things hurt more in the winter! One way to stimulate circulation, reduce swelling in the joints, improve muscle flexibility and make you feel good in winter is to have regular massages.
At Miramar Physiotherapy we offer Therapeutic Massage sessions individualised to your needs and if you join our massage club, after 6 sessions you next massage is free* (*conditions apply).
